Chinese Vegetables Recipes - Pearl Onions in Orange Ginger Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 oranges

  • 2 red chili peppers

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp walnut oil

  • 450 g/1lb pearl onions

  • 1 slice ginger root, chopped

  • 10 ml/2 tsp sugar

  • 10 ml/2 tsp cider vinegar

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp red peppercorns salt

  • 5 ml/1 tsp grated lemon rind

  • a few coriander leaves


Method:

  1. Using a zester, cut the orange peel into narrow slivers. Halve the oranges and squeeze the juice. Halve the chili peppers and remove the seeds.

  2. Heat the oil and stir-fry the onions, ginger and chili peppers for 1 minute. Add the sugar then simmer until the onions are translucent.

  3. Mix in the orange juice, cider vinegar, peppercorns and orange rind and season with salt.

  4. Stir in the lemon rind and most of the coriander leaves. Arrange on a warmed serving plate and garnish with the remaining coriander leaves.
