Chinese Beef Recipes - Family Style Shredded Beef Recipe

Ingredients

  • 225 g/8 oz beef, shredded

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp groundnut (peanut) oil

  • 1 slice ginger root, minced

  • 1 red chili pepper, chopped

  • 4 stalks celery, diagonally sliced

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp hot bean sauce

  • 5 ml/1 tsp salt

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp rice wine or dry sherry

  • 5 ml/1 tsp sesame oil

  • 5 ml/1 tsp wine vinegar

  • freshly ground pepper


Method:

  1. Place the beef in a bowl with the soy sauce and oyster sauce and leave to marinate for 30 minutes.

  2. Heat the oil and fry the beef until lightly browned then remove them from the pan.

  3. Add the ginger and chili pepper and stir-fry for a few seconds. Add the celery and stir-fry until half cooked. Add the beef, hot bean sauce and salt and mix well.

  4. Add the wine or sherry, sesame oil and vinegar and stir-fry until the beef is tender and the ingredients well mixed. Serve sprinkled with pepper.
