Chinese Beef Recipes - Steamed Beef with Sweet Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 450 g/1lb lean beef, thinly sliced

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp black bean sauce

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp sweet bean sauce

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 5 ml/1 tsp sugar

  • 2 slices ginger root, minced

  • 2 sweet potatoes, cubed

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp groundnut (peanut) oil

  • 100 g/4 oz breadcrumbs

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 3 spring onions (scallions), finely chopped


Method:

  1. Place the beef in a bowl with the bean sauces, soy sauce, sugar and ginger and leave to marinate for 30 minutes.

  2. Remove the beef from the marinade and add the sweet potatoes. Leave to stand for 20 minutes.

  3. Arrange the potatoes on the base of a small bamboo steamer. Coat the beef in the breadcrumbs and arrange on top of the potatoes. Cover and steam over boiling water for 40 minutes.

  4. Heat the sesame oil and stir-fry the spring onions for a few seconds. Spoon over the beef and serve.
