Chinese Beef Recipes - Steamed Beef Recipe

Ingredients

  • 450 g/1lb lean beef, sliced

  • 5 ml/1 tsp corn-flour (cornstarch)

  • 2 slices ginger root, minced

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp rice wine or dry sherry

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp salt

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp sugar

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp groundnut (peanut) oil

  • 2 spring onions, minced

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp chopped flat-leaved parsley


Method:

  1. Place the beef in a bowl. Mix together the corn-flour, ginger, soy sauce, wine or sherry, salt and sugar then stir into the beef. Leave to stand for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. Arrange the beef slices in a shallow heatproof dish and sprinkle with the oil and spring onions.

  3. Steam on a rack over boiling water for about 40 minutes until the beef is cooked. Serve sprinkled with parsley.
