Chinese Pork and Ham Recipes - Chinese Roast Pork Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1.25 kg/3 lb joint of pork, thickly sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp rice wine or dry sherry

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp honey

  • 90 ml/6 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2.5 ml/1/2 tsp five-spice powder


Method:

  1. Arrange the pork in a shallow dish. Mix together the remaining ingredients, pour over the pork, cover and marinate in the refrigerator overnight, turning and basting occasionally.

  2. Arrange the pork slices on a rack in a roasting tin filled with a little water and baste well with the marinade.

  3. Roast in a preheated oven at 180C/350F/gas mark 5 for about 1 hour, basting occasionally, until the pork is cooked.
