Chinese Pork and Ham Recipes - Fiery Pork Recipe

Ingredients

  • 450 g/1lb pork fillet, cut into strips

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 5 ml/1 tsp five-spice powder

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp pepper

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp groundnut (peanut) oil

  • 6 spring onions (scallions), chopped

  • 1 green pepper, cut into chunks

  • 200 g/7 oz bean sprouts

  • 2 slices pineapple, diced

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp tomato ketchup (catsup)

  • 150 ml/2/3 cup chicken stock


Method:

  1. Place the meat in a bowl. Mix the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, five-spice powder, pepper and sugar, pour over the meat and leave to marinate for 1 hour.

  2. Heat the oils and stir-fry the meat until golden brown. Remove from the pan. Add the vegetables and fry for 2 minutes.

  3. Add the pineapple, tomato ketchup and stock and bring to the boil. Return the meat to the pan and heat through before serving.
