Chinese Pork and Ham Recipes - Pork with Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 dried Chinese mushrooms

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp groundnut (peanut) oil

  • 450 g/1lb pork, cut into strips

  • 2 onions, sliced

  • 2 red peppers, cut into strips

  • 350 g/12 oz white cabbage, shredded

  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 2 pieces stem ginger, chopped

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp honey

  • 45 ml/3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 120 ml/4 fl oz/1/2 cup dry white wine

  • salt and pepper

  • 10 ml/2 tsp corn-flour (cornstarch)

  • 15 ml/1 tbsp water


Method:

  1. Soak the mushrooms in warm water for 30 minutes then drain. Discard the stalks and slice the caps.

  2. Heat the oil and fry the pork until lightly browned. Add the vegetables, garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 1 minute.

  3. Add the honey, soy sauce and wine, bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 40 minutes until the meat is cooked. Season with salt and pepper.

  4. Mix together the corn-flour and water and stir it into the pan. Bring just up to the boil, stirring continuously, then simmer for 1 minute.
