Chinese Seafood Recipes - Fried Prawn Balls with Onion Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten

  • 45ml/3 tbsp plain (all-purpose) flour

  • salt and freshly ground pepper

  • 450 g/1lb peeled prawns

  • oil for deep-frying

  • 15ml/1 tbsp groundnut (peanut) oil

  • 2 onions, chopped

  • 15ml/1 tbsp corn-flour (cornstarch)

  • 30 ml/2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 175 ml/3/4 cup water


Method:

  1. Mix the eggs, flour, salt and pepper. Toss the prawns in the batter. Heat the oil and deep-fry the prawns until golden brown.

  2. Meanwhile, heat the oil and fry the onions for 1 minute. Blend the remaining ingredients to a paste, stir into the onions and cook, stirring, until the sauce thickens.

  3. Drain the prawns and arrange on a warmed serving plate. Pour over the sauce and serve at once.
