Chinese Vegetables Recipes - Onion and Tomatoes in Simple Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized onion

  • 2 tomatoes (choose firm and ripe)

  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil

  • pinch each salt, sugar and Ve-Tsin (M.S.G.)

  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce

  • 4 tablespoons hot chicken stock

  • 3/4 teaspoon corn-flour

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • 1 onion 'flower'


Method:

  1. Roughly chop the onion. Cut the firm tomatoes into eighths and set aside. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the onion in it for 4 minutes, tossing it about.

  2. Add a pinch salt, pinch sugar, pinch Ve-Tsin, soy sauce and chicken stock and cook for a further 2 minutes.

  3. Add the tomatoes and gently move them about so as not to break them up.

  4. Blend the corn-flour with the water, stir it in and boil for 1 1/2 minutes. Turn into a heated serving dish and garnish with the onion 'flower'.
